Learners of English often confuse do and make.i

There is a rough guideline, but no hard and fast rule:i

• We often use do when we speak about everyday jobs and tasks: do the shopping; do the dishes; do my homework.i
• We use make when we want to speak about creating something, in particular something which didn’t previously exist: make a cake; make a suggestion; make an offer.i

Here are some examples of when to use make or doi

i-Why are commedians like doctors?i

i-They keep people in stitches!i

Stitches are the pieces of thread that doctors use to hold together an incision after a surgical operation. If you make people laugh helplessly, we say that you keep them in stiches.i

Derrick was always funny. Even at a young age he could keep people in stitches with his jokes. As an adult, however, he decided to go into medicine. As a surgeon, he could keep people in stitches- but of course, in a very different way!i

Change is nature of life

But challenge is aim of life...i

So You have to challenge the changes,i

Not change the challenges!!!i

i-What kind of pool can't you swim in?i

i-A car pool

A pool is a small body of water. It can also refer to a common supply of something, such as money, that can be used by a number of people. For example, when people drive together in the same car to save gas and money, it's called a car pool.i

John and Brittany, along with several of their school friends, were invited for a swim at Garcias' pool. The Garcias' house was far away and the kids wanted to drive together to save gas. They went in two car pools and spent the whole afternoon swimming.i

i-What suit lasts longer than you do?i

i-A lawsuit

A suit is a set of matching clothes that are worn together, especially for business wear. A lawsuit is an action taken in a court to secure justice.i

Mr. Kim was worried. Today he had to appear in court because a lawsuit was being brought against him. Of course, he dressed up in his best suit for the trial so that he would look nice for the judge and jury.i

i-What has a fork and mouth, but cannot eat?i

i-A river

A fork is the pointed tool you use to carry food from your plate to your mouth. But a fork is also the place where a river or a road splits and goes in two different directions. The mouth of a river is where the river enters the ocean.i

A: Look up ahead! There's a fork in the river. Which direction should we take?i

B: Stay to the right. That's the side that leads down to the mouth of the river. We'll be there in about two more hours.i

A: Two hours! Let's get out of the boat then, and find a place to eat. I'm hungry, and the only mouth I care about right now is mine!i

Intonation

English tag questions can have a rising or a falling intonation pattern.  As a rule, the English rising pattern is used when soliciting information or motivating an action, that is, when some sort of response is required. Since normal English yes/no questions have rising patterns i iii (e.g. Are you coming?), these tags make a grammatical statement into a real question:i

• You're coming, aren't you?i
• Do listen, will you?i
• Let's have a beer, shall we?i

The falling pattern is used to underline a statement. The statement itself ends with a falling pattern, and the tag sounds like an echo, strengthening the pattern. Most English tag questions have this falling pattern.i

• He doesn't know what he's doing, does he?i
• This is really boring, isn't it?i

•  Usually, we use negative tags with positive sentences and positive tags with negative sentences, but this may vary in some regions.In North East  Scotland, for example, positive to positive is used when no special effect is desired:i
• He was the best in the class, was he? (rising: the speaker is challenging this thesis, or perhaps expressing surprised interest)i
• He was the best in the class, wasn't he? (falling: the speaker holds this opinion)i
• Be careful, will you? (rising: expresses irritation)i
• Take care, won't you? (falling: expresses concern)i

Sometimes the same words may have different patterns depending on the situation or implication.i

• You don't remember my name, do you? (rising: expresses surprise)i
• You don't remember my name, do you? ( falling: expresses amusement or resignation)i
• Your name's Mary, isn't it? (rising: expresses uncertainty)i
• Your name's Mary, isn't it? (falling: expresses confidence)i

On the other hand, the adverbial tag questions (alright? OK? etc.) are almost always found with rising patterns. An occasional exception is surely.i

What is a doughnut?i

Someone who is crazy about money

A doughnut is a fried cake shaped like a ring. in slang, dough also means "money", and nut means " acrazy or eccentric person." if you are a nut for something, it means that you are extremely enthusiastic about it.i

In the United States, "buck" is used instead of "dollar" in spoken and informal language.i

A: Richard, you are looking well. How about getting some coffee with me?i

B: Coffee and doughnuts sounds great! So, what have you been up to lately? I haven't seen you for a while.i

A: Actually, I've been working around a clock in my new business.i

B: Oh, you're after the big bucks, huh? I never thought you'd be so dedicated to money!i you're becoming a real "doughnut"!i

A: Yeah, and a healthnut, too. I don't eat doughnuts anymore- they have too much fat!i

as broad as it is long

Its meaning is that the arguments on both sides [of whatever is under discussion] are of equal value, or that two ways of going about doing something will bring about the same result, so that neither is to be preferred to the other.i

Since both jobs pay 7$ an hour and are equally boring, it is about as broad as it is long whether I take one or the other.i
