In the end can means 'finally' , ' after a period of time' , or 'in conclusion

.All the restaurants closed early, so in the end we went home

We, iranians have got a ceremony in "Charshanbe soori" Which we call it " Ghashosh zani" in which children use to go to neighbor's houses asking for candies and such things. To everybody's surprise I'm gona say that we have the roots of this custom in America Actually, they do this in the Halloween, in which thier young children do as ours or we'd better say our young childern do as theirs.

Back in the Bible days kings ruled. Belshazzar was a king in the time of Daniel. And just like today, some leaders were crooked back then. In the book of Daniel in the Old Testament it is written that Belshazzar had stolen from the temple in Jerusalem. Later at a party a finger appeared and wrote a message to the king on the wall. It indicated that his days were numbered; Belshazzar was killed later that night. So, the writing on the wall indicates inevitable circumstances are about to occur

Indeed, there's no difference in meaning, it only goes with American and British English, in which the word toward is American and towards is British
